gpa 414 in altec 8127 cabinet

How would the gpa 414's perform in an altec 8127 cabinet? I don't have WinISD any more since I switched to mac so i can't model it, but I figured the pros on this forum would have real world knowledge that would make a model unnecessary. I know that the 8127 enclosure was designed for the altec 3127 driver in mind and that it's internal volume is only 1.5 cubic feet. The 414 would perform much better in a 614 enclosure but I am crossing over at 80Hz to a sub anyway so a F3 point of 65 to 70Hz would work just fine for me. I am interested in this enclosure for a "compact" home theater set up. I would cross over to a 802/902 at around 1500Hz using a 9848 crossover as a starting point. Thanks for any information that you guys can provide! -charles

GPA apparently doesn't list any info on them plus the various measured original AlNiCo 414 specs I've seen/measured are anything but consistent and considerably different from Altec's 414-8C, E published specs, so based solely on the latter and assuming they will have as much inductance as the AlNiCo 414 and 3127, then the 8127 cab should be fine. Still, best to ask GPA.

FYI, the 9848 has a nominally 700 Hz XO, so not sure which you're referring to since you didn't list the horn you plan to use.

Re: gpa 414 in altec 8127 cabinet

Opps, sorry, I meant the 9849 crossover for 414 woofer, 902 driver and bent 32 horn. I haven't decided on which horn I intend on using yet. I was thinking about using the MR931 on top of the 8127 cabinet, in which case I would have to modify the crossover for cd compensation. Or I could use the 9842 crossover which is already compensated, but those didn't use the 414 woofer. Another option would be to use one of the many incarnations of zilch's z19 crossover. Lots of options there from 811's to waveguides. -charles
